The French construction and infrastructure giant Vinci announced on Wednesday April 17 an agreement to buy 50,01% of the shares of Edinburgh airport "for a price of 1,27 billion pounds sterling", or almost 1,5. XNUMX billion euros.
Vinci Airports, a subsidiary of Vinci Concessions, intends to buy this majority stake from Global Infrastructure Partners, owner since 2012 of this airport, which has 14,4 million annual passengers with connections to 150 destinations "in 38 countries", according to a press release.
It was, in 2023, the largest airport in Scotland and the sixth in the United Kingdom, with a turnover of 272 million pounds.
In particular, he has established “close long-term relationships” with the companies EasyJet, Ryanair, British Airways and Jet2.
Vinci intends to "develop the airport's potential" with in particular "the opening of new connections and the making of additional investments", details the French group.
“The return of traffic to pre-Covid levels is expected during 2024” in Edinburgh, according to Vinci.
In the United Kingdom, the company's second largest market, Vinci has held a majority stake in Belfast Airport since 2018 and in London Gatwick Airport since 2019.
