After the construction of the famous London Eye observation wheel, for which POMA designed the 32 capsules and the drive system, POMA will once again participate in the construction of a major tourist attraction in England and unique in the world : the i360. Work has just started and the opening is scheduled for summer 2016.
The i360 will have a restaurant, boutique, exhibition space and facilities for conferences and events on the ground. Li360 will be managed by Brighton i360 Ltd. The Brighton i360 project team consists mainly of Jacobs Engineering Group Inc (Jacobs), the architects of the Marks Barfield firm in London, the Dutch company Hollandia, the French company POMA. Together, this team has already built the famous London Eye observation wheel. It is meeting again in Brighton to build the i360.
The construction of the structure of this vertical ski lift whose scale is unique in its kind, was designed by Jacobs, a world-renowned player in this type of construction, with extensive experience in leisure projects of large scale, including tourist attractions and passenger transport facilities. The two companies Jacobs and HOP (local engineering) will manage the project together. David Marks and Julia Barfield, the architects and creators of the i360 and the London Eye said: “We will be building something totally unique and internationally renowned here at Brighton & Hove. We are very excited to work with this top team again and look forward to the attraction opening in summer 2016. ”
