The Tati store in Barbès in Paris transformed into social housing

The first wave of the call for projects, launched as part of the "Réinventer Paris" operation and whose objective is to transform vacant offices into housing, concerns six sites, two of which belong to the City.

The most emblematic is undoubtedly the Haussmannian building located at the corner of Barbès and Rochechouart boulevards, topped with the pink gingham Tati sign since 1948. A popular store which the GPG group, which had taken over in 2017, had announced in July 2020 the closure, its attendance having been strongly affected by the crisis linked to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Its 6.500 m² of surface area will be partially transformed into housing, "in particular" social, but the town hall remains open to the possibilities of commercial use of the ground floor, in order to "keep an opening on the district", underlined Emmanuel Grégoire , the first deputy of the mayor PS Anne Hidalgo, during a press conference.

The municipality wants to fully involve the owner, the GPG group, and the heirs of the Ouaki family in the call for projects.

The historic headquarters of Assistance-Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris, located avenue Victoria, opposite the Town Hall, will see half of its 25.000 m² maximum allocated to office space, and 30% to social housing. The AP-HP is moving its headquarters to the Saint-Antoine hospital (XNUMXth century), said Mr. Grégoire, deputy in charge of town planning.

Among the four other sites registered in this first wave of rehabilitation are two car garages, one belonging to Renault in the 1954th century, the other to PSA in the 10.000th century. The first, built in XNUMX and comprising nine levels for XNUMX m², offers a direct view of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine.

The six sites total 60.000 m² of surface to be rehabilitated, but "much more with the potential to be built", underlined Emmanuel Grégoire according to which the health and economic crisis could generate "a fall in demand for offices between 15 and 25%".

The goal of Ian Brossat, PCF deputy for housing, is "to go much further and do more in the new term" than the 350.000 m² of offices converted into housing during Anne Hidalgo's first term. (2014-2020). A pace that had already doubled compared to the two terms of office of his predecessor Bertrand Delanoë (2001-2014).
