SNCF said it has reopened to traffic, after modernization, the line connecting Gisors (Eure) to Serqueux (Seine-Maritime), improving freight service to the port of Le Havre.
"Freight traffic resumes today (Friday) and passenger traffic at the end of the month," a spokesperson for SNCF Réseau told AFP.
The 50 km long line had been closed since December 2017. It was notably electrified, for an announced budget of 260 million euros.
It should allow the passage of 25 additional freight trains per day, doubling the historic Paris-Rouen-Le Havre route which is reaching saturation point.
“Concretely, that means more than 6.000 trucks per week less on the roads,” SNCF Réseau remarked in a recent document.
The reopening of Gisors-Serqueux, initially scheduled for November, was delayed by four months due to the pandemic. The end of the line, to Dieppe (Seine-Maritime), was closed in 1988.
