The Bricoman brand joins the Valobat eco-organization

Bricoman, a multi-specialist brand for building professionals, has chosen to join the shareholders of Valobat to commit together, unite our experiences and know-how to better serve the environmental transformation of buildings.

Currently, the building waste deposit represents approximately 46 million tonnes of waste per year in France, or the equivalent of the total quantity of annual waste from French households. By comparison, the EPR or Extended Producer Responsibility sector for household packaging represents approximately 5 million tonnes of waste produced annually.

The entry into force from January 1, 2023 of the REP requires all entities responsible for placing building products or materials on the French market to finance or organize the prevention and management of waste from their products. and end-of-life materials.

Each year, approximately 2 million tons of CO2 could be avoided thanks to better management of building waste while contributing to the reduction of illegal dumping.

Thus, and in accordance with the regulations which aim to accelerate the circular economy in the building sector, Bricoman has chosen to join forces with Valobat, the eco-organization created by and for building stakeholders and to ensure all waste collection, treatment and recycling chain.

This waste collection service will be set up in 2023 in 23 of the 38 Bricoman stores that can accommodate collection bins. The 15 stores¹ unable to install a device on their site will offer a collection partner less than one kilometer away.

How is this new service funded?

The collection is financed by an eco-contribution paid by industrial manufacturers, distributors or importers of construction products and materials. Customers and non-customers of the brand, whether building professionals or private individuals, can go to Bricoman to drop off their sorted waste from the building free of charge.

Sorting areas will thus be set up in the car parks of our stores to collect the following waste: metal, plastic, glass, rubble, wood, mineral fractions and plaster. The terms of access and reception hours for these waste collection areas remain to be defined in order to offer the most useful and appropriate service to our customers.
