The effectiveness of automated sun protection is now recognized; but Somfy goes further by now offering all its TaHoma users the benefit of a new function enabling them to maximize energy savings.
Automate your solar protections to reinforce window insulation
The public authorities have recently recalled the significant impact of eco-gestures as simple as lowering the temperature by 1°C. However, it seems idealistic to believe that each individual can manually and repeatedly adjust the temperature of each room. The key to real change in the way we consume energy lies in the simplicity of use and its automation, thanks to connected solutions that interact with each other to maximize energy savings.
Automating your solar protections allows you to modulate the supply of heat according to your needs, without having to think about it. In winter, the shutters or blinds open to let in solar radiation and thus naturally heat the interior of the dwelling: the window thus acts as a real radiator, providing a large quantity of free and ecological energy! Sunscreens close automatically at nightfall to conserve heat. Thanks to this automation, the user can save on average 10%* on his heating consumption compared to manual solar protection.
* Average obtained according to the results of 3 studies: TBC/FFB; Bastide Bondoux and Incidence 8/INCUB.
Making energy savings accessible to everyone
To support individuals in their quest for energy savings, Somfy is launching a new function on its TaHoma switch control, to enable all users to benefit from automatic management of their sun protection.
They can now benefit from a preconfigured “Thermal comfort” scenario, directly integrated into the TaHoma interface. This scenario is accessible to all users equipped with connected sun protection, without having to add a sensor. They are guided step by step to configure a scenario that will allow them to save energy all year round.
In winter, solar protections open during the day to take advantage of the sun's free calories and heat the accommodation, then close at dusk to retain the heat.
In summer, sunscreens close when the sun is beating down to keep cool; then they open at nightfall to naturally cool the accommodation during the cooler hours.
This data can be personalized according to individual needs or lifestyles.
Thus, individuals can easily save energy, without having to think about it, and even when they are not at home.
Solar protection at the service of energy performance, a few key figures:
- The window represents 60% of calorific gains or heat losses. (Ademe)
- In summer: - 7°C decrease in indoor temperature during heat peaks, with automated solutions vs (TBC/FFB: analysis of the energy contribution of the roller shutter – 2010)
- In winter: 10% on average on heating consumption with automated vs manual solutions (Average obtained according to the results of 3 studies: TBC/FFB; Bastide Bondoux and Incidence 8/INCUB)
- A programmable thermostat saves an average of 15% energy, i.e. an annual reduction of 210 euros (Ademe)
- Automated heating & connected to automated solar protection can reduce heating consumption by up to 32% in winter
