ISO 14001 environmental certification for 262 sites
Since 2014, 100% of CEMEX's ready-mixed concrete and aggregates sites have been ISO 14001 certified: quarries, depots, ready-mixed concrete production units, ports, pushers and administrative headquarters. This year, for the 4th time, CEMEX is renewing this environmental certification for 262 sites within its concrete and aggregates activities, a scope of unique scope in the building materials industry.
“The latest audits, carried out by Bureau Veritas, have largely confirmed our sustainable commitment to the environment. Among the strong points highlighted, the Group's ambitious actions in terms of CSR and biodiversity, significant improvements in waste management, the continued involvement of functional and operational teams, as well as the good maintenance and cleanliness of the audited sites., says Quentin Saivet, environment manager.
On the strength of its commitment to biodiversity, illustrated in particular by the creation of the Collectif des Associations Partenaires (CAP) in 1995 and by its historic partnership with the LPO (Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux) since 2003, CEMEX is also continuing its actions within the Biodiversity Commitment label offered by Ecocert.
“This certification rewards our longstanding involvement in the subject of biodiversity and provides a guarantee in the pursuit of our actions, in particular with regard to the Entreprises Engagées pour la Nature scheme. », says Johanna Moreau, biodiversity manager.
A vision extended to social responsibility
CEMEX has been heavily involved in the initiatives carried out by the UNICEM Entreprises Engagées association since its creation in 1992. Since 2017, thanks to this sectoral initiative, the members of the federation have the possibility of setting up a process of continuous improvement. and evaluation of their company in terms of social responsibility, based on the ISO 26000 standard: the CSR label. CEMEX did not hesitate to commit to it immediately, finding many correspondences with its company policy. At the end of 2021, CEMEX renewed its CSR label at the "exemplary" level, following the evaluation carried out by CERIB and after validation by a committee of external stakeholders from UNICEM. To date, CEMEX is the only company with an international dimension to have obtained this optimal level for all of its activities.
“We are very proud of the level achieved, and well aware that meeting all the requirements of this label represents continuous efforts on the part of our teams, in particular those of our industrial sites” acknowledges Louis Natter, Director of Sustainable Development, and to add “It's a permanent and collective challenge, of course, but which ultimately gives our daily action all its meaning! ".
CEMEX has been mobilizing for several decades in favor of sustainable development. The company is thus carrying out, on an international scale, an ambitious approach called Future in Action. This global strategy constitutes CEMEX's roadmap for the coming years in terms of climate action, circular economy and biodiversity.
