Public works groups expect to lose 20% of their revenue this year

"Only half of companies consider that they will be able to return to their level of activity in the coming months", according to a press release from the National Federation of Public Works (FNTP) which carried out a survey of its members.

Like other construction companies, public works groups were confronted with the shutdown of numerous worksites after the entry into force in mid-March of strict confinement in the face of the coronavirus.

Now, with the lifting of this containment in early May, almost all the companies in the sector have resumed their activity, according to this survey, but at levels still far from normal.

"The overall turnover recorded for the month of May represents only 68% of that of the month of May 2019", notes the federation. "In other words, there is almost a third of activity missing compared to May 2019."

Even by the end of August, companies in the sector expect on average only activity below 90% of its normal level.

"In total, companies anticipate a 20% drop in turnover over the whole of 2020 compared to last year", concludes the FNTP, according to which the groups worry first of a lasting fall of the invitations to tender by the public actors.
