Thermal comfort, mastery of light, transparency and perfect integration with the facades represented a major challenge for this exceptional site.
This unique technical challenge has been successfully met by Mermet, a leader in the design of fabrics for sun protection. The winning architects of the Pritzker Prize selected the Satiné 5500 fabric for its amazing performance and its ability to adapt to the rare constraints of implementation of this building.
A key comfort issue for a building with transparency
The Feltrinelli Foundation designed by Herzog & de Meuron incorporates all the codes of typical Lombard farms: narrow and elongated with a hipped roof. In this ultra modern version, the facades and the roof are entirely glazed.
The place hosts on 7 floors multifunctional spaces, designed to host screenings and artistic events, but also offices, meeting rooms and reception rooms for seminars, as well as Microsoft's headquarters in Italy.
The mastery of light was therefore of paramount importance for:
- eliminate backlighting in offices and in particular on projection screens,
- ensure optimal visual comfort for users of the rooms,
- fight against the glare caused by the reflections of the sun,
- guarantee thermal comfort by protecting from heat,
- give perfect transparency with a clear vision of this district steeped in history whose architecture dates back to the XNUMXth century.
In addition, certain facades inclined at 30 degrees, equipped with trapezoidal windows represented a particular difficulty for the installation of blinds.
320 ZIP roll-up blinds in Satin fabric 5500 colors 0130 Charcoal Gray by Mermet, i.e. 6.000 m2, are deployed on the south facade and are available between:
- 192 vertical ZIP blinds 3,49 m high and 2,14 m wide,
- 128 ZIP blinds, developed in the 1st world (Resstende “Traction kit” system) specially designed for vertical, horizontal and oblique applications, the ZIP system giving the fabric an ideal tension for a perfect finish and giving it great wind resistance.
Satiné 5500, the widest range on the market
Available in 50 colors and up to 320 cm wide to equip large windows, the Satiné 5500 fabric stands out for its many performances:
- unequaled protection against heat: up to 96% of solar energy is rejected in external application (gtot of 0,04 with a glazing of reference g = 0,32 and U = 1,1)
- ideal visual comfort with very good glare control thanks to its diagonal satin weaving while optimizing the supply of natural light: up to 96% of the light rays are filtered (Tv: 4%),
- cost reduction: 6 widths to optimize the use of fabric and reduce fall rates.
The Satiné 5500 is also distinguished by:
- excellent dimensional stability for large vertical blinds and its perfect suitability for ZIP applications,
- excellent mechanical resistance for tensioning
- its M1 fire classification which meets the requirements of establishments open to the public,
- remarkable durability: its mechanical endurance test of 10.000 cycles class 3 NF EN 13561,
Chosen to equip this emblematic building for the renewal of an entire district, Mermet once again demonstrates its expertise and its ability to respond to the most demanding architectures in terms of sun protection: by being integrated from the design, it is no longer an element isolated and even becomes a source of innovation.
