CNP Assurances facilitates access to home loans for breast cancer patients in remission

CNP Assurances announced on Tuesday March 19 the removal of additional premiums and exclusions in borrower insurance for people who have overcome breast cancer, a measure which should concern at least a thousand files each year.

“We are the first insurer to go further than the regulations in force,” said Thomas Chardonnel, director of partnerships in France at CNP Assurances, at a press conference.

This measure should concern a thousand borrowers each year, the vast majority of them women, according to Mr. Chardonnel, out of the approximately 10 million borrower insurance contracts from CNP Assurances.

The number could, however, be higher thanks to eligible people who are currently refraining from applying for a loan, notes the manager.

Nearly 60.000 people were diagnosed last year, according to Public Health France.

Borrower insurance accompanies a real estate loan and allows payment of remaining installments in the event of death or disability.

This measure from CNP Assurances comes in the wake of the Lemoine law, which came into force in 2022, which included the removal of the medical questionnaire for property loans of less than 200.000 euros and a reduction to five years of the "right to lending" period. 'forgotten' for former cancer or hepatitis C patients.

It is taken with all of CNP Assurances' partners and distributors including Banque Postale, the BPCE group and BoursoBank (formerly Boursorama, a subsidiary of Société Générale).

Its implementation will cost several million euros, says CNP Assurances.

“For us, this is obviously very good news,” reacted to AFP the general director of the Rose Up association Isabelle Huet, who hopes that other market players will join this initiative and that more other cancers will benefit from the same measure.

Borrower insurance is an extremely profitable product for banks, highlighted as such by consumer associations for several years.
