The State will initiate modernization work that will reduce journey times on the classic railway line connecting Paris to Toulouse via Orléans and Limoges (POLT), said the Ministry of Transport.
The State will concretely devote 257 million euros, out of a total of 385 million, the balance to be provided by local authorities, for modernization work which will allow "to save 22 minutes of travel time, in order to save Limoges at 2 hours 49 from Paris in 2025 ", according to the ministry.
This envelope is in addition to the 2,2 billion euros which "have already been sanctuarized in order to regenerate the line and carry out initial improvements", he noted in a statement.
These include regenerating the tracks by 2025 (1,6 billion), buying new trains from the Spanish group CAF (450 million) and improving the reliability and safety of the line (140 million) .
"Despite the crisis and the health context, the work schedule has been kept and the new trains will be available from 2023", assured the ministry.
A similar modernization plan has been launched for the line connecting Paris to Clermont-Ferrand.
