The companion of Eurocode 3

This guide offers a useful approach to the engineer in charge of the design and calculation of steel structures.

In the field of structural calculation, and before the generalization of current computer resources, calculation rules were established in codes so as to be able to be implemented in a simple manner, with a view to application by manual calculation. These rules have now become very complicated at times and almost impossible to apply manually. Specialized software incorporates these rules, but the user is led to accept “black box” processing using these software, without really having the possibility of controlling the algorithms used.

The guide "The Eurocode 3 companion" offers a useful approach to the engineer in charge of the design and calculation of steel structures. Eurocode 3 offers a set of new calculation rules, more or less complex to implement and interpret. These difficulties can lead to errors in reasoning or calculations and it seemed necessary to propose tools likely to mitigate these risks somewhat. The aim is to provide the user with tools for applying the code, which are completely transparent and can be modified as needed.

This work is accompanied by a CD containing specific computer applications, developed under Windows in a copyright-free environment, and covering a wide range of calculations covered by standards NF EN 1993-1-1, NF EN 1993-1-5 and NF EN 1993-1-8 .

The applications offered have been designed with a constant concern for efficiency and ease of use.
