Intended for all exterior carpentry professionals, whether members of the union or not, this technical sheet was drafted by a UFME working group in preparation for the revision of DTU 36.5 ("Installation of exterior windows and doors") .
This document defines the conditions for testing the fasteners and the exploitation of the results making it possible to establish their permissible resistance to wind and weight at low crosspiece, quantities taken into account in the dimensioning of the devices for fixing external joinery treated elsewhere in the document. UFME information sheet "Fixing of joinery in new works" (choice of fixings, enumeration, location).
"We are aware of the difficulties of interpretation and application of the rules of the art defined in DTU 36.5, in particular for the characterization and use of the fixing lugs as indicated in the standard" comments Ludivine Menez, Technical Delegate of UFME. "This new technical sheet, resulting from the preliminary work for the revision of the NF DTU 36.5 standard, is the fruit of the work of technical experts, manufacturers of joinery and complementary elements, such as the companies Deldi and Louineau, to clarify the test rules and expression of the performance of the mounting brackets " She concludes.
The technical sheet "Characterization of fasteners" in brief
The technical sheet "Characterization of fasteners" has the value of a professional position and specifies the methods indicated in informative annex G "Allowable resistance and estimated maximum load of fasteners" of standard NF DTU 36.5. Illustrated with several diagrams, this educational document explains the test conditions to define the resistance of the fasteners, from the mounting of the legs to the exploitation of results:
- Tensile test: determination of the admissible resistance of the fixing lugs to wind loads;
- Bending test: determination of the permissible resistance of the fixing lugs to loads due to the weight of the bottom cross member.
The technical sheet recalls that the admissible resistance values to wind and weight are communicated by the manufacturer in order to allow to choose the suitable model of leg and their number.
The document refers to the consultation of the technical file "Fixing joinery in new work", which offers recommendations for the choice of fixings, their number and location to ensure the fixing of joinery to structural work.
As part of its mission, the UFME accompanies and supports the designers, manufacturers and installers of high-performance exterior joinery, installed in compliance with the rules of the art. Information and monitoring center, but also publisher of professional documentation, the union provides up-to-date data and regulatory and technical information, in order to help its members to run their businesses, to anticipate changes in the exterior carpentry market and its technical advances.
