Modula, the new innovative and ecological modular railway platform system, installed for the first time in France

An economical solution proven in Europe

As part of the process of seeking savings on the cost of national station projects, SNCF Gares et Connexions carried out an international benchmark during the summer of 2021 which revealed the interest in MODULA modular prefabricated concrete platforms. ®, developed in Germany by the company Hering International and which equip more than 500 stations in Europe.

The first modular elements manufactured in compliance with the SNCF technical standards, STI PMR and the standards in force, were delivered in December 2022 on behalf of SNCF Gares et Connexions to the site in Verneuil l'Étang.

An innovative solution adapted to new platforms and all trains

Presented in Berlin at the Inno Trans 2022 exhibition, this new construction system is distinguished by a kit of prefabricated elements, ready to be installed on a low load-bearing ground (250 kN/m²) and allowing rapid commissioning of passenger platforms ( 24 – 28h / 100ml).

The foundations of the system which are located outside the pressure of rail traffic loads limit the time of traffic disruption during the works.

The custom-made long-span MODULA TT® quay slabs (straight or curved up to 9 x3 m) are fitted into the self-locking prefabricated bases.

The platform surface, which is certified non-slip by CERIB (SRT 82), offers secure access to all travelers.

In addition, the ingenious MODULA® SHIFT system allows the subsequent raising or lowering of platforms (from 35 to 55 cm, from 55 to 72 cm, from 72 cm to 92 cm), without the prior dismantling of the structures (masts). , furniture, etc.) anchored to the MODULA® slab.

A sustainable solution that is part of the “avoid, reduce and compensate” approach

Ecological, the new MODULA® prefabricated construction system considerably reduces the number of deliveries, human and material resources, and consumption of natural resources and materials.

The Eco-balance carried out according to the DIN EN 15804, DIN EN ISO 14040 and DIN EN ISO 14044 standards validates the 33% reduction in CO2 emissions over the entire life cycle of the MODULA® system (52 ​​t CO2 / ml ) compared to the conventional construction method (78 t CO2 / ml).

From 2024, MODULA® elements will be manufactured with a new generation of low-carbon cement (CEMII B) and will make it possible to further improve the current score.
