The coronavirus pandemic has caused a delay of three to eight months in the construction of the Grand Paris metro, said the Société du Grand Paris (SGP) responsible for leading the site.
"During this period of second confinement, the teams of the Société du Grand Paris and partner companies are mobilized to continue the work, in order not to increase the delays, of the order of three to eight months, caused by the confinement spring ", noted the president of the SGP Thierry Dallard, quoted in a press release.
The official did not specify a new provisional timetable for the commissioning of the 200 km of automatic metro that the SGP must put into service in stages, theoretically between 2024 and 2030.
"The project continues and accelerates year after year, as new contracts are added," nevertheless noted Mr. Dallard.
The supervisory board of the SGP adopted the 2021 budget, which provides for 4,6 billion euros in investments, including 4,2 billion for the works of the Grand Paris Express and 400 million for other investments in public transport francilians.
On the revenue side, the SGP, which builds the metro by borrowing, expects to have next year 800 million euros thanks to the proceeds of various taxes, according to the press release.
The supervisory board also approved a modification of the project for the future line 18 Orly-Versailles, with the removal of a viaduct between the CEA of Saclay (Essonne) and Magny-les-Hameaux (Yvelines), which will be replaced by a less expensive ground layout.
