Mobil Wood is a joinery with 70 employees, based in Cravant in Yonne, which is part of the Ulterïa ecosystem, the French leader in ecological store layout and solutions to develop food bulk (150 employees, € 25 million turnover). A company with a mission and soon to receive the B-Corp label, Ulterïa and its companies have for their raison d'être to become an ecosystem that creates values for Man and Life. The economic value created must thus generate plural values, positive externalities for the environment and society.
The Ulterïa Saint-Bris project is anchored in the rural town of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux (Yonne) and creates a unique ecosystem of organizations combining industrial, agricultural, service and educational activities. This project aims in particular to build a new virtuous factory for Mobil Wood.
To do this, the high-performance building was designed with an ecological and economic approach aimed at optimizing flows, reducing the building's consumption, producing energy directly on site using 1.200 m² of solar panels, and water treatment. autonomous by phyto-purification and 100% waste management, especially at the end of the building's life.
An exemplary industrial construction in line with the values of Mobil Wood
Integrated into its rural environment, the future 4.500 m² Mobil Wood joinery is built with local resources, renewable as much as possible, and non-toxic for those who employ and use them on a daily basis: wood, stone, hemp, cellular glass, wood wool, zinc ...
So many renewable and "upcyclable" resources. Goodbye PVC and its endocrine disruptors, glass wool and its difficulty in recycling, paints and glues that emit formaldehydes. It is the same philosophy for the materials that Mobil Wood uses in its fittings: healthy, sustainable, local, bio-based.
The quality of life at work is a central subject in the construction: natural light abounds in the workshop thanks to large windows and skylights. Noise is handled by several clever systems that reduce emission and reverberation. Dust and wood chips are sucked up by a high performance suction, and directly used for the wood boiler. The cooling during the summer is done by a natural system called "adiabatic" which refreshes the air while regulating the humidity. Ideal for wood, ideal for employees.
Built in partnership with architects from the department, the HVR firm, and AMO Upcyclea, the future Mobil Wood factory aims for Cradle-to-Cradle certification when it goes into service, scheduled for April 2021.
A construction supported by the public authorities
The construction of the plant, costing 6,4 million euros, is supported by the public authorities. In this project, the European Union, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Bourgogne-Franche Comté region and the Auxerrois agglomeration community have largely supported and supported this project.
On the one hand, the technical services of the ERDF and the Region have greatly helped in the design of an industrial demonstrator building unique in France.
On the other hand, the ERDF financially supports this project to the tune of 1.140.232 euros.
Finally, the agglomeration community of Auxerrois is subsidizing this project up to 100.000 euros.
A construction to inspire
The production site will thus be a demonstrator of the values carried by the company and of the quality of its work. With its wooden cladding and its green setting, the building must be a showcase in the field of eco-furniture.
The production of renewable energy will allow the activity to develop while constantly reducing its impact on the environment.
By pooling its production with its location, the company will create beneficial links with its neighborhood. The site will convey a quality image, that of a building looking to the future and evolving, anticipating any changes in the business plan.
