Schindler, one of the leading elevator manufacturers for more than 150 years, announced on October 17 that it had won the contract to supply escalators and elevators for the future line 18 of the Grand Paris Express.
Line 18: Orly Airport - Versailles in 30 minutes
This automatic line, which will link Paris-Orly airport to Versailles, via the Paris-Saclay urban community, will be built in three phases: the Massy Palaiseau – CEA Saint-Aubin section in 2026, the Orly Airport – Massy Palaiseau in 2027 and finally the 3rd and last section CEA Saint-Aubin – Versailles Chantiers in 2030.
35 km long, line 18 will make it possible in particular to support the development of the Paris-Saclay cluster by putting it in contact with the region, airports and TGVs, and guaranteeing the attractiveness of public and private research centers, while by ensuring the connection with Paris-centre, via connections at Massy and Versailles with the existing networks and the connection with line 14 at Paris-Orly airport.
Schindler's elevators and escalators will allow users to be transported vertically in 9 stations on line 18. The equipment will be delivered in 3 stages: in 2026, 2027 and 2030.
Société du Grand Paris has very specific expectations of its service providers. Firstly, safety on the Grand Paris line 18 construction site must meet the same requirements as on all the other sites of this major project. Similarly, respect for the environment remains a major component of its specifications, such as the reduction of site nuisances for local residents.
For Philippe Boué, CEO at Schindler France “We are happy and proud that the Société du Grand Paris has renewed its confidence in us and that we are continuing our collaboration on the Grand Paris Express project. Because, at Schindler, we have fully understood and respected the cost control constraint of this market. In addition, as with line 15 and line 16, our ability to manage interfaces with other batches was distinguished. »
Schindler elevators: comfort, robustness and design
Société du Grand Paris has opted for top-of-the-range lifts, designed for public transport, combining comfort, robustness and design. Schindler 5000 series elevators widely installed in Public Transport (stations, airports, metros, etc.) have proven themselves to major players in public transport.
A single identity
Attentive to their visual identity, Schindler has designed in collaboration with Henri Gagnaire, designer at Patrick Jouin ID, a cabin with a unique decoration combining respect for design, compliance for accessibility for people with reduced mobility and resistance to acts of vandalism.
From the button box to the cabin lighting, everything has been designed down to the smallest detail for a "Grand Paris Express" visual identity intended for the well-being of users. The awarding of this new contract rewards the design work and investment of our design office.
The study and work organization of the Major Projects Department dedicated to Greater Paris was also a determining factor in the awarding of this contract. Our know-how in the management of Major Projects guarantees our customers support from A to Z.
Schindler stairs: mobility focused on safety and respect for the environment
Throughout the project, safety and respect for the environment were the watchwords. Safety: To enable Société du Grand Paris to ensure the safety of its network, escalators are designed to remain stable in a station in the event of a fire. Analyzes of the fire resistance of the structures have enabled the Société du Grand Paris to better understand these needs for structural protection against fire.
Evacuation studies have also made it possible to propose an automatic restart operation for escalators in the exit direction, including recommendations relating to the upkeep and maintenance of this equipment.
The environment: Concerned about offering quality products while ensuring the preservation of the environment, all the escalators that Schindler will install on the Grand Paris Express project are completely recyclable and/or recoverable and many components are manufactured from recycled products, such as aluminum or steel.
Schindler's escalators are designed and manufactured in Europe, as are 75% of their components.
This proximity, within the European Union, ensures the maintenance of employment and production within Europe, great flexibility in the on-site delivery circuit and a very favorable carbon footprint.
