Low-carbon solutions par excellence, the latest generation electric radiators connected and equipped with intelligent control devices constitute one of the best heating options available on the market, both in terms of carbon contribution, installation costs, operating costs, What comfort.
Gifam, the group of brands of home appliances and electrical thermal solutions, welcomes this development which allows consumers to have a more representative ranking of their home in terms of energy efficiency and which gives them the means to take concrete action on it. In addition, the new criteria taken into account in the calculation of the DPE highlight the advantages of electric radiators and water heaters in the context of thermal renovations for low-carbon housing.
The estimate given by the new DPE label, ranging from A to G, provides very concrete information on the environmental performance of housing. Two concomitant criteria are now assessed: the energy criterion, to know the energy consumption, which takes into account insulation, heating, the production of domestic hot water, cooling, lighting and ventilation, and the climate criterion to know the quantity of greenhouse gases emitted by housing.
“The new DPE makes it possible to better take climate issues into account. It now encourages the French to renovate their homes in favor of solutions that emit little CO2, such as electric heaters. » explains Éric Baudry, President of the Thermal Commission of Gifam.
Compulsory when selling or renting accommodation, the new DPE encourages owners to undertake renovation work in order to display a better class and make their property more attractive. In the absence of work after the calculation of their DPE, the owners of housing classified F and G will have the obligation to carry out an energy audit aimed at identifying the cost of the energy renovation and the items of renovations to make the housing pass from an F or G to B category. Changing your electric radiators to new generation models is proving to be a good option for improving the comfort and performance of your home. In addition, housing classified G can no longer be rented out by 2025, those classified F in 2028 and those classified E in 2034.
The Energy Performance Diagnosis is also a great tool for homeowners. It provides annual energy consumption as well as recommendations for better controlling it.
The low carbon ally
The introduction of the impact of CO2 emissions in the definition of DPE classes confirms the electric heater as an effective solution for helping to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, since, as a reminder, electric heating use more than 93% carbon-free energy in France. Thermodynamic water heaters allow for an 80% reduction in electricity consumption for the production of domestic hot water.
Today, 1/3 of homes are equipped with electric radiators, representing a total of 70 million appliances, 14 million of which need to be renovated. In this context, electric heating solutions are economical, ecological and sustainable. In addition, they are easy to install, do not require maintenance that is constraining to use for the consumer, are repairable and recyclable.
The ally of comfort
Coupled with thermal insulation work, the use of electric heaters allows a clear improvement in the feeling of thermal comfort in homes thanks to the innovations made in recent years. Easy to use, electric heaters adapt to the real needs of the occupants with room-by-room temperature regulation, presence or open window detection... According to the Gifam Insights study conducted in 2021, 6 owners of dwellings heated by electricity out of 10 want to be equipped with a connected heating system.
Programmable water heaters also apply the instructions given to them throughout the day, and according to the days of the week. Thus, they only heat the amount of water needed at the right time to maximize everyone's comfort.
The ally of budget control
In terms of heating, the integration of new technologies allows substantial energy savings: when replacing a first generation appliance with a latest generation appliance, energy savings are around 30%, depending on the use and characteristics of the device as well as the behavior of the consumer.
The benefits are even greater with programmable and intelligent devices that allow heating only in the right place and at the right time and thus reduce your electricity bill.
[1]After the overhaul of the coefficients last November, owners of housing built before 1975 have until April 30 to request the reissue of their DPE carried out between July 1 and October 31, 2021.
