Lycée Nadar will almost double its capacity from 2024, going from 700 to 1.300 students. This objective requires various types of interventions on the building, ranging from the construction of new surfaces to the expansion and restructuring of existing functions, in particular half-board.
To the programmatic diversity of the project: science rooms, laboratories, first aid rooms, general education, sports halls, dining hall, relocated administration, the architecture responds with an iconic and renewed image of the school.
The intervention of the ROPA & ASSOCIÉS Architectes agency will focus, beyond an optimal response to functional demands, to give the heart of the block a new identity based on openness, light and shade, the comfort and calm conferred by a great formal simplicity, the constructive legibility and the warm materiality of the wood.
In order to integrate as smoothly as possible into the existing high school and the heavily wooded environment of the site with the proximity of the Sénart forest, the extension is developed in tiers, with the floors extending from the existing levels.
Large horizontal overhangs underline, by effectively protecting them from the sun, each accessible level, thus freeing them by magnifying the views on the landscape.
These shooting caps come to homogenize while renewing the architectural landscape of the heart of the block, by reconfiguring the interior / exterior relationship as closely as possible to the needs of the high school population. The concept of courtyard accompanies the entire linear building overlooking the landscaped courtyard, offering continuous shelter, with differentiated atmospheres.
Intervention on an occupied site will be phased and will involve the adaptation of construction methods. They will be eco-responsible by mainly using bio-based materials favoring the dry sector and prefabrication.
Finally, the roofs and caps will be largely vegetated, in order to offer users a pleasant close environment visible from the interior spaces.
