The 2021 wind power market, although growing compared to 2020 with an additional 11,3 GW installed (compared to 10,4 GW in 2020), is following a pace that is far too slow to achieve the objectives of the European Union.

Main lessons from the EurObserv'ER 2022 wind barometer
Onshore installations barely make up for a disastrous year for offshore wind power (only 0,6 GW commissioned). The offshore industry is nevertheless very innovative with 15 MW prototypes in the test phase, but the constraints linked to the authorizations for new parks are hampering this dynamic. To reach 40% renewables in final energy consumption by 2030, installations would have to be tripled. The total installed capacity (excluding the United Kingdom) therefore amounts to 187,8 GW in the European Union. Electricity production of 384,9 TWh is down (397,4 TWh in 2020) but is explained by an exceptional year 2020 in terms of wind (362,5 TWh in 2019).
Global Wind Energy Trends
World wind power was 737 GW in 2020 for an electricity production of 1 TWh. Even if the latest figures for 592 are not yet known, it is very likely that new installations will be largely insufficient compared to the trajectory of the IEA, necessary to achieve the objective of the Net Zero scenario, i.e. an increase in the wind generation by 2021% per year over the 18-2021 period. Note, however, ambitious statements in the United States aiming for a 2030% reduction in emissions by 50 (compared to 2030), despite an installed wind capacity of only 2005 GW in 12,7 (- 2021% compared to 25) . China, for its part, installed more than 2020 GW over the year (compared to 47,6 GW in 72,1), with in particular a leap in the offshore market (2020 GW in 16,9 compared to 2021 GW in 3,06).
