Studios Architecture renovates a historic gem on Boulevard Haussmann

The marriage of the past and the present

In a resolutely innovative spirit, the team decided to imagine a glass roof, on 2 floors, to replace slate and traditional zinc. If the classic materials of the Haussmann roofs were abandoned, the silhouette of the latter was reproduced identically, creating a perfect unity with the neighboring buildings. Punctuated by thorns in polished aluminum, the canopy respects the line of zinc grids on the roofs of Boulevard Haussmann, and harmonizes with its historic environment.

Bring in the light

In addition to this unusual glass roof, green terraces have been built on three levels, protected by glass railings, giving the whole transparency and a magnificent view of the Parisian sky and the most beautiful monuments. of the capital. On the facades, on the inner courtyard side, the full-height glass slides with digital engravings create a play of light and shadow according to the rays of the sun.

The restructuring of the building also resulted in a modification of the accesses, to find the historic entrance of 141 boulevard Haussmann allowing to enlarge the hall and create new meeting spaces. The ground floor, redesigned and entirely open plan, becomes a visually open volume over its entire surface. The reception on the street side communicates, at the rear, with a versatile double height space under the glass roof, bathed in natural light.

Thus, this pure 1 m² gem located in the heart of the 800th arrondissement of Paris is making a flamboyant return to the XNUMXst century, adorned with its historic splendor associated with the advantages of contemporary architecture.
