The study by the Agence Qualité Construction (AQC) on balconies has just been published. This study was commissioned by the Ministry in charge of Housing in the context of the upsurge in balcony collapses. The study was finalized in November 2019 but the ministerial authorities took time to validate it.
AFCAB (Association Française de Certification des Reinforcements du Béton) welcomes this publication which should make it possible to make concrete progress on the recommendations made in this study.
AFCAB has been alerting the public authorities for several years now to the upsurge in balcony collapses and the need to strengthen regulations relating to the reinforcement of reinforced concrete constructions. The quality defects of these reinforcements and their implementation can indeed weaken balconies and even the habitat as a whole.
The AQC study confirms the need for better control of the installation of reinforcements to ensure optimal safety. AFCAB is now waiting for the Ministry to take up this study and its recommendations to make concrete progress on the measures to be taken. These are the messages that the association conveyed during a recent meeting with the advisers of the Minister for Housing Emmanuelle Wargon.
For AFCAB the urgency is there, the accidents continue and we must not wait for new accidents and especially tragedies like the one that occurred in Angers in 2016.
