The fall of a beam on a construction site in the XNUMXth arrondissement of Paris resulted in a traffic interruption on sections of the RER C and disrupted train traffic at the Austerlitz station on Tuesday morning, SNCF said and Paris city hall.
"The fall of a beam from a construction site on the SNCF tracks of the Austerlitz beam leads to the suspension of train and RER C traffic. We are doing everything possible with the SNCF to restore the situation", indicated Emmanuel Grégoire, first deputy at the town hall of Paris, in charge of town planning and Greater Paris.
The traffic was interrupted from 5 am. According to Twitter accounts which posted photos of the incident, a 00-ton concrete beam fell on the tracks of the RER C, one of the busiest public transport axes in the Paris region.
"Traffic is interrupted between Paris Austerlitz and Massy-Palaiseau and between Paris Austerlitz and Juvisy until the end of the day. Traffic is also interrupted between St-Quentin en Yvelines and Versailles Chantiers", specified the SNCF, which puts regularly update traffic information on the Twitter account and the site.
For trains, arrivals and departures have been moved to Paris Bercy station.
The president of the Ile-de-France region Valérie Pécresse also reacted on Twitter, deploring an "accident (...) which could have had tragic consequences".
