The number of dwellings authorized over the last three months is much higher (+20,1%) than the average for the 12 months preceding the health crisis (March 2019 to February 2020). The effect of the exceptional number of permit applications submitted in December 2021 has been exceeded since the end of March for pure individual housing, is gradually fading for grouped individual housing but remains very high for collective housing or residences.
Over the last three months, housing starts are estimated to have decreased (-2,4%) more markedly than in the previous three months (-0,6%), in CVS-CJO data. During these three months, housing starts are estimated to have been lower (-2,9%) than their average for the 12 months preceding the first confinement.
From September 2021 to August 2022, 523.100 housing units were authorized for construction, i.e. 64.200 more than during the previous 12 months (+14,0%). At the same time, it is estimated that 384.900 housing units were started, i.e. 1.800 more (+0,5%) than in the previous 12 months (September 2020 to August 2021). If we take as a point of comparison the 12 months preceding the health crisis (March 2019 to February 2020), the number of dwellings authorized and started during the last 12 months are respectively 13,8% and 0,4% higher.
Authorized accommodations
From September 2021 to August 2022, 523.100 housing units were authorized for construction, i.e. 64.200 more than during the previous 12 months (+14,0%).
Authorizations for residential accommodation (+24,3%) experienced the strongest growth, ahead of those for ordinary collective accommodation (+21,9%), and grouped individual accommodation (+20,8%). Pure individual housing is down (-1,9%).
Housing starts
Over the past twelve months, an estimated 384.900 housing units have been started, i.e. 1.800 more (+0,5%) than in the previous 12 months (August 2020 to July 2021).
Pure individual housing (+11,4%) would have experienced strong growth. On the other hand, grouped individual housing (-1,9%), ordinary collective housing (-4,6%) and residence housing (-6,0%) would have decreased.
