Colas is building a cycle path in the Oise using innovative asphalt with a reduced carbon footprint

Colas teams laid 5.500m² of Vegecol asphalt, i.e. 2,2 km of track, as part of the development of a greenway linking Pierrefonds to Palesne following the route of the old track of iron. The work carried out on behalf of the community of communes of the Lisières de l'Oise was completed at the end of September 2022.

The construction of this new section is part of the project for cycle routes and greenways between Compiègne (Oise) and Villers-Cotterêts (Aisne); this project is intended to encourage soft traffic, develop cycle tourism and promote eco-mobility in this tourist region.

Vegecol is an innovative mix designed by the Colas research laboratory. It is made locally from aggregates and a binder based on vegetable resin derived from pine, produced in France. This binder reduces greenhouse gas emissions estimated at 60% compared to traditional solutions. Vegecol is also part of the range of low-temperature mixes, which limits energy consumption during its manufacture.

Composed of a translucent binder, Vegecol has the particularity of highlighting the natural color of the aggregates and thus makes it possible to produce an aesthetic coating adapted to tourist sites. This solution was able to convince the Architect of the Buildings of France who validated its use near the castle of Pierrefonds, classified as historical monuments.

This confirms that in addition to its environmental qualities, Vegecol is also a very qualitative product. »

After several successful operations since last year, this is a new major reference for Vegecol which is thus continuing its deployment, with a next project already scheduled in the Jura and future projects internationally. .
