This ambitious strategy, aimed at sustaining the site's activity and jobs as well as French industrial know-how, is supported by the government's France Relance plan. With this program, the site will become a center of excellence for the manufacture of architectural hardware products.
Enhance the Longué-Jumelles site and position it as a center of excellence across the ASSA ABLOY group
The Longué-Jumelles site is one of the four sites of the ASSA ABLOY group in France. It is also a historical site of the French industrial fabric, which ASSA ABLOY is committed to bringing to life, by promoting the know-how of this factory specializing in the manufacture of architectural hardware products: door handles and stops, door handles window, pegs, floor and wall protection, handrails, etc. Another distinctive sign is its zamak foundry, one of the largest in France; this zinc and aluminum alloy makes it possible to produce technical components and parts that are both of high quality and aesthetic. Finally, it should be noted that the site is triple ISO certified: 9001 for quality management, 14001 for environmental management and 50001 for energy management).
The plant already produces for several brands of the ASSA ABLOY group, including Vachette and JPM. But ASSA ABLOY wants to go further: the Group aims to make Longué-Jumelles a center of excellence for architectural hardware, within the EMEA zone (Europe, Middle East, Africa), through R&D and Manufacturing. . The Group has also undertaken to relocate the production of its zamak components to France, which should contribute to the sustainability of jobs. Becoming a center of excellence will allow the site's know-how to be promoted to other entities abroad.
Zamak components to serve the needs of the ASSA ABLOY Group
With a production volume of 1.600 tons of zamak per year in 2021, the foundry has a capacity reserve that allows it to produce at very competitive prices. Capable of working all types of zamak components that are currently purchased externally, the foundry aims to supply all the entities of the ASSA ABLOY group in France as well as in Finland, Sweden and England.
To achieve its objectives, the ASSA ABLOY group is investing in a machining center to increase productivity, as well as in tooling with, in particular, the creation of new moulds. Concerned about the working conditions of its employees, 250 people including 150 in production, the Group has also planned to develop ergonomic means to integrate the load.
A major investment plan supported by France Relance
As part of the increase in skills desired for the creation of this center of excellence, ASSA ABLOY, which invests 800.000 euros each year for the modernization of its Longué-Jumelles site, is deploying a larger investment plan of an amount total of 1.247.000 euros. Started in 2022, this plan will continue in 2023.
In order to raise the funds necessary for the realization of this project, the file was submitted to the France Relance plan, which aims to accelerate the ecological, industrial and social transformations of the country. This exceptional recovery plan deployed by the public authorities aims in particular to make French industry a pillar of economic recovery, to support its transformation and modernization. In view of its high added value for the French territory, this relocation project was selected, and will be supported up to 50% or €623.500.
This relocation strategy undertaken by ASSA ABLOY echoes the ambitions of the France Relance plan with a common desire to promote French industrial know-how.
