The Ministry of Energy Transition has just presented the new outlines of RE2020. Gas will be banned in new Detached Houses by summer 2021, offering a great springboard for wood energy. Eric Trendel, President of the French Union of Boilers Biomass, ensures that the wood industry is ready and in working order to respond to this new turning point.
The president of the SFCB, Eric Trendel reviews the recent announcements of the Ministry of Energy Transition on the future RE2020 and ensures that the sector will be able to meet this new challenge.
“This sudden announcement is a very nice surprise for both wood construction and wood energy. The sector has many strengths to meet this new challenge. We have a local and renewable resource, efficient solutions that preserve air quality, wide ranges of products, and qualified installers throughout the territory to install and maintain the boilers.
Putting wood at the heart of RE2020 is to promote France's leading source of renewable energy. We are the second European country producer of wood energy while only 50% of the increase in our forest is exploited! The timber industry is a virtuous circle as a whole. Building in wood allows CO2 to be stored in the building. The production of structural timber in sawmills gives rise to sawnwood residues, or related, which are then reused to form wood pellets intended for heating. Our model encourages the circular and local economy and responds to climate challenges, while allowing everyone to heat themselves in a sustainable economic manner.
Our offer of boilers is very wide and able to adapt to the greatest number. Our manufacturers and importers offer high-performance equipment (suction cup or condensation, manual or automatic), suitable for all budgets and for all types of housing. I have often heard that a biomass boiler is bulky and complicated to install: today we have systems that only take up 1 square meter on the ground and can be installed in a day!
The SFCB will work alongside builders of individual houses, project managers and design offices so that the installation of biomass boilers is simplified. If today we are very happy to be able to position ourselves more widely in individual housing, the sector also has the solutions to meet the needs of collective housing as defined in RE2020. "
