The Government is committed to the Seine-Nord Europe canal project

After examining the proposals in the report by deputy Rémi Pauvros, Alain Vidalies, Secretary of State for Transport, the Sea and Fisheries, decided to resolutely pursue the Seine-North Europe canal project by taking three decisions to organize the operational phase of the site. These meet the objective of launching the operation in 2017, in accordance with the commitments made by the Prime Minister.

- Voies Navigables de France is responsible for the prefiguration of the Seine-Nord Europe canal project company. The objective set by the Government is to have, in the fall, proposals on the constitutive rules of this company. These proposals will be based on the opinion of the local authorities, and will serve as the basis for the order to create the company.

- Discussions will be initiated under the aegis of coordinators who will soon be appointed to consolidate and finalize the financing of the project through the conclusion of a project financing protocol, bringing together the State and the local authorities.

- The prefect of the Picardy region, prefect coordinator of the project, Ms. Nicole Klein, is responsible for coordinating the “Grand Chantier” process, as well as the administrative and regulatory procedures. It will also have the mission of leading participatory democracy approaches, as recommended by the Pauvros report, in conjunction with the future project company and local authorities.
