In order to strengthen the local educational offer in the south of the Pyrénées Orientales department, the Languedoc-Roussillon Region is building the new Christian Bourquin general and vocational high school in Argelès-sur-Mer. It will open its doors at the start of the 2015 school year.
Designed by Atelier Architecture Emmanuel Nebout from Montpellier, the school is topped with a concrete roof terrace. The acroterion was insulated with Polyfoam Duo Plus, a new extruded polystyrene panel with very high thermal performance from Knauf Insulation. Coated on one side with a 100 mm high density 10% fiber cement Eternit protection, Polyfoam Duo Plus was chosen by the waterproofing company SMAC for its speed of installation and its qualities of reinforced mechanical protection.
An architectural project adapted to the training provided
With a surface area of 17 m270, the Christian Bourquin general and vocational high school is organized on two levels. The ground floor is dedicated to specialized teaching rooms, kitchens and dining rooms. The floor reserved for general teaching premises and hotel training benefit from unobstructed views of the surrounding nature.
The technical rooms, fitted out as a roof terrace and sheltered by an undulating roof, emblematic of the establishment, integrate solar collectors.
2 150 m2 of Polyfoam Duo Plus for the insulation of parapets on flat roofs
The flat roof is covered with a self-protected asphalt waterproofing membrane. For faster removal from water, Mr. José Arias, Director of the SMAC company in Perpignan, recommended, for the insulation of acroterion surveys, the Polyfoam Duo Plus from Knauf Insulation, a new panel in extruded polystyrene. very high thermal performance, coated on one side with Eternit protection 100% high density fiber cement of 10 mm.
« We have chosen this product not only for its ease and speed of implementation, but also for mechanical protection reinforced with the waterproofing it provides thanks to the facing fiber cement. The isolation of the acroterion surveys has been carried out before installing the covers at the top of the wall » says Mr. Arias.
To adapt to the height of the acroterion surveys, the Polyfoam Duo Plus panels, with a width of 600 mm, were cut into three. They are fixed by Knauf Insulation Fix polyurethane foam adhesive on the waterproofing covering of the patio roof and held by fixing brackets at the junction of each panel to ensure perfect insulation.
Polyfoam Duo Plus has a conductivity coefficient (Lambda) of 0,029 W / (mK) and high thermal resistance (R = 2,05 m2.K / W) for an insulation thickness of 60 + 10 mm.
With a dimension of 600 x 1250 mm, they are nearly 2.150 m2 of Polyfoam Duo Plus which were installed on this site.
Polyfoam Duo Plus, enhanced impact and moisture resistance
Compatible in new and under renovation with the requirements of high-rise buildings / high-rise buildings and public buildings / establishments open to the public, the Polyfoam Duo Plus is intended for the thermal and acoustic insulation of acroterion surveys, buried walls and foundations by outside.
Coated with a protective face of 10 mm high density fiber cement, Polyfoam Duo Plus is insensitive to water and humidity. It also benefits from high impact and UV resistance as well as high compressive strength.
Polyfoam Duo Plus, an implementation fast and aesthetic
Available from 50 + 10 mm to 120 + 10 mm thick, the Polyfoam Duo Plus fits easily thanks to its grooved / bouvet edges, for quick installation.
The facing is cut with a diamond grinder. The Polyfoam Duo Plus is attached to the substrate by gluing with Knauf Insulation Fix polyurethane foam adhesive.
Polyfoam Duo Plus, a certified solution
In accordance with the recommendations of the CSFE / Chambre Syndicale Française de l'Etissement, the Polyfoam Duo Plus primer complies with the European standard XPS EN 13164 and benefits from ACERMI certification.
