Collapse of a bridge on a construction site in Toulouse: one dead and several injured

At the end of the afternoon, the construction site of line C of the southern metro of Toulouse in the town of Labège saw a serious accident causing one death and three injuries, two of which were very serious.

The tragedy occurred while the victims were on the construction site bridge. A piece of concrete collapsed, causing the workers to fall around ten meters. One died from this fall, two others who were seriously injured were urgently transferred to Perpigan University Hospital and another suffering from lighter injuries was treated in a nearby clinic.

An open investigation

An investigation has been opened to better understand the circumstances of the tragedy. The first results seem to point towards the collapse of a scaffolding having dragged the rest of the structure with its fall. A psychological support unit has also been set up for witnesses and people affected by the accident.

Laurent Chérubin, the mayor of Labège, spoke about the accident: “When there is a tragedy that happens like this, it is a hard blow, we think first of the families and I offer them my condolences” .

Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor of Toulouse, declared that “all light must be shed on the causes and exact circumstances” of the accident.
