While the climate crisis highlights more than ever the importance of decarbonization issues in industry and construction, the expectations of customers, suppliers, employees, partners and shareholders in the social and environmental fields are rightly particularly high. In this context, ROCKWOOL contributes to a carbon-free economy in order to effectively protect the planet while ensuring the comfort and safety of building users. The Group is also ahead of its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) out of the 11 defined by the UN (United Nations) and has exceeded 7 of its intermediate goals, several of which are on track. to be fully achieved by 2030.
The independent certifier EcoVadis once again validates ROCKWOOL's results in terms of environmental protection, ethics, respect for teamwork, business loyalty and responsible purchasing.
For Gaëtan Fouilhoux Public Affairs Director of ROCKWOOL France: “After two years of stabilization at 72/100, we are resuming our progress with an overall score of 74/100 and even 80/100 for the environmental and social policy sections of the company. »
Circular economy, water management and corporate social policy highlighted
Since 2012, ROCKWOOL has offered its customers its ROCKCYCLE service, which allows the recycling of rock wool scraps, pallets and the plastic packaging in which the products are packaged. The rock wool offcuts are thus reintegrated into the manufacturing process. Recently extended to renovation sites, ROCKCYCLE® Reno was awarded the Silver Medal at the International Congress of Construction Quantity Surveyors (Untec) 2022.
Thanks to ROCKCYCLE, ROCKWOOL supports the development of the circular economy
In addition to recycling materials, ROCKWOOL also aims to be exemplary in water management. In France, the Saint-Eloy-les-Mines site in Puy-de-Dôme has reduced its water consumption by 27% per tonne of stone wool produced between 2003 and 2021. In addition, the industrial site s registered since June 1st in the PURE plan, a plan for the rational use of water in the Puy-de-Dôme. The latter specifies the water reduction measures already implemented and the additional commitments that can be implemented, particularly during drought alert periods.
Working conditions, employee protection, skills development, risk prevention are all good points also highlighted by EcoVadis France on the social policy aspect of the ROCKWOOL company. To achieve these results, the ROCKWOOL plant in Saint-Éloy-les-Mines relies, among other things, on 4 international management certifications:
- ISO 9001 (quality management)
- ISO 14.001 (environmental management)
- ISO 50.001 (energy management)
- OHSAS 18.001 (workplace health and safety management).
Certifications that will be implemented for the future Soissons plant.
For Gaëtan Fouilhoux: “ROCKWOOL will continue its efforts on the points of vigilance and the axes of continuous improvement identified by EcoVadis which will lead us to the 'exceptional' level. »
