This regulation should allow the building sector, which is among the most emissive in the country, to play its part in the decarbonisation of the economy. In this context, professionals warn about the fact that an arbitration which would consist in giving up or weakening the dynamic LCA would be catastrophic. Indeed, if dynamic LCA, an essential pillar of RE2020, becomes optional (referred to a label) and non-regulatory in 2021, only to then be hypothetically reconsidered in 2024, then France would not keep its commitments. during the Paris Agreements for the building sector.
Aware of the historical challenge to which RE2020 must imperatively respond, the Wood Construction Industry is mobilizing to make its contribution to the collective effort necessary for the decarbonisation of French construction. This is why the players in the forest and timber construction are now making a solemn commitment to elected officials, the Government and their partners by launching the “Plan Ambition Bois-Construction 2030”.
They make 10 concrete commitments to facilitate the transition of the building sector to carbon neutrality, from the renewal of trees to the end of the timber lifecycle. These strategic commitments relate to training, employment, investment, research and development, the development of the French wood supply, the establishment in the territories, the mix of materials, the sustainable management of the forest. , cost reduction and finally recycling of wood at the end of its life.
The timber construction industry, convinced that the issue of decarbonization will bring together all the construction trades around a sustainable and circular vision of the life of the building, thus demonstrates that it will be at the rendezvous of RE2020 and will give its full support to the advent of an exemplary construction sector. The assumed mix of constructive solutions and materials as well as an acceleration of starts as soon as the uncertainty over the arbitrations of the RE2020 will be lifted, will benefit economically the whole of construction. For the wood sector alone, this mixed construction market already represents more than 10 billion euros of added value created annually and 205 direct jobs in the end markets of sustainable and low carbon construction.
The “Plan Ambition Bois-Construction 2030”: a response to RE 2020
RE2020 should allow the building sector to accelerate its transition to carbon neutrality and to participate in the collective effort to completely decarbonise the economy. This transition and this ambitious objective constitute a remarkable accelerator of innovation and mix of materials, synonymous with additional added value for the construction trades and economy.
The stakes are high for the building sector, still governed by a standard that predates the Paris Climate Agreements - RT2012 - and hit by the health and economic crisis. The success of this transition therefore requires the RE2020 through innovation and an increased mix of materials. In this context, the share of wood and bio-sourced materials is inevitably called upon to rapidly increase.
10 commitments to accelerate the ecological transition
No material is as virtuous as wood and bio-based materials to quickly and sustainably reduce the carbon footprint of the building. The “Plan Ambition Bois-Construction 2030” testifies to the capacity of the wood-construction sector to respond to the increase in the use of wood and bio-based materials. It brings together its 10 commitments to support all construction professionals in the coming transition:
- Train: "We are committed to supporting, in the act of building, the operators of the family of builders in connection with training organizations. We are also committed to a continuous training effort for our professionals, from upstream to downstream. "
- Develop employment: “We are committed, by increasing our production capacities, to developing employment and producing added value. "
- Mobilize volumes: “We are committed to promoting investments linked to the development of primary and secondary processing plants towards mixed products, combining wood with other materials, in order to meet market requirements in terms of volume. "
- Invest in research and development: “We are committed to a constant effort in research and development, ranging from engineering to the design of innovative construction products and systems, in order to promote the development of the wood and biobased construction markets. "
- Develop the French wood supply: “We are committed to promoting the construction of low-carbon housing with priority given to French wood. "
- Support the economy of the territories: “We are committed to developing benchmark industrial players and processing capacities in the heart of French territories. "
- Promote a mix of materials: “We are committed to meeting the challenge of increasing the mix of materials with construction companies, on the strength of all the achievements of the demonstrator programs carried out for several years. "
- Plant and replant: “We are committed to maintaining a constant effort to guarantee the renewal of the French forest. "
- Lower the costs : "We are committed to maintaining a constant effort to increase the use of wood and invest in production tools to reduce costs. "
- Recycle wood at the end of its life: “We are committed to investing in biomass plants and optimizing the use of end-of-life wood products. "
