After several years of work and research, visitors can finally (re)discover this exceptional part of the Château de Rambouillet. By relying on a very precise inventory of the period, the teams from the Center for National Monuments and National Furniture were able to recreate the atmosphere that reigned at the time.
Go behind the scenes of the restoration of Napoleon I's private apartment at the Château de Rambouillet!
Part of the original furniture was restored in the Mobilier national workshops to return to its original location. Reconstruction work was also carried out to find certain pieces, such as the canopy of the Emperor's bed.
Other objects, such as the bust of Napoleon loaned by the Fondation Napoléon, add the finishing touch to the place!

A little bit of history
The Emperor moved to the Château de Rambouillet in 1806. Napoleon I particularly appreciated this place, located not far from Paris, away from the court. He could go there with his loved ones, to hunt or work. The apartment is made up of three rooms in a row, the highlight of which is the bathroom, Marie-Antoinette's former boudoir. Napoleon I entrusted his transformation to Godard, who created a sumptuous neo-Pompeian decor.
