After RT 2012, RE 2020! Applied since 2022 in new residential and office and educational buildings, the 2020 Environmental Regulations will gradually extend in 2023 to temporary constructions, small areas, building extensions and the tertiary sector.
RE2020 has 3 objectives:
- encourage energy sobriety
- reduce the carbon impact on the life cycle of new buildings
- guarantee summer comfort
Unlike RT 2012, RE 2020 attempts to measure the overall environmental impact.
To do this, several energy indicators are used:
- the bioclimatic need (Bbio)
- primary energy consumption (Cep) and non-renewable primary energy consumption (Cep nr)
- the carbon impact (Ic energy) and the carbon impact of the construction materials used (Ic construction)
The amount of energy needed to cover the needs for heating, cooling, domestic hot water, lighting, ventilation, and elevators / escalators and parking in the case of collective buildings are thus observed and quantified, as well as summer comfort (expressed in degree hours) that the building can provide.
Particularly demanding, RE 2020 is fully in line with the ambition to reduce the environmental impact of buildings and save energy.
