Geoffrey Vanstals, Sales engineer for flat roofs at Recticel, explains: You don't want to add extra insulation to your flat roof, but you still want to install a new EPDM or PVC waterproofing membrane over an existing bituminous membrane? That's perfectly possible, but you need to take a few things into account.
Synthetic membranes can react chemically with the substances in the bituminous layer. In this case, it is best to install a separation layer. For this purpose, you can, for example, use our Topcover thin insulating panels. They serve as a separation layer, have a compressive strength of over 500 kPa, and you can easily bond a new layer of EPDM or PVC on top.
Furthermore, the panel is only 10mm thick, so you won't need an additional roof edge if you decide not to add insulation. Always check for condensation problems in the new structure.
