The promises are great: to fly higher, faster, and with even greater precision. This is with the aim of covering large areas while not neglecting lidar penetration in vegetated areas, but also of obtaining detailed point clouds over complex areas such as power lines or engineering structures.
In terms of technical specifications, DJI continues its momentum and offers as significant a leap between the L2 and L3 as it did between the L2 and L1. All specifications for the lidar module, the camera module, and the location module have been improved.
The DJI L3 integrates a LiDAR module and two 100-megapixel 4/3 wide-angle CMOS photogrammetric sensors. The camera allows for the colorization of the point cloud obtained using LiDAR, as well as for photogrammetric surveys and calculations.
Used with the DJI Matrice 400 RTK drone and DJI Terra software, the Zenmuse L3 is the complete solution for high-precision, real-time 3D data acquisition.
We can note the major advances
The ability to obtain up to 16 echoes from the same laser source while having a laser emission frequency 50% higher than L2
A maximum frequency of 2Mpts/s to achieve a very high level of detail (10 times more than L2)
A dual 100Mpixel camera sensor positioned obliquely to facilitate faster acquisition by increasing the spacing between flight lines.
DJI claims a precision of 3cm vertically and 4cm horizontally, which again represents a significant improvement over its predecessor.
Main applications:
- Topographic surveys
- Construction & monitoring of buildings or structures
- Forest exploitation & management
- Energy & infrastructure
- Agriculture
