Recycle Glass is a new service set up by AGC Glass Europe to recover deconstructed glazing. The flat glass will then be returned to feed the production furnaces and thus develop the circular economy of the sector.
Thanks to the Recycle Glass service, 1,2 tonnes of natural materials are preserved and 0,7 tonnes of CO2 are avoided per tonne of recycled glass. In addition, cullet (the technical term in the glass industry for recycled glass) accounts for a significant portion (over 50%) of the composition of low-carbon glass.
AGC provides dismantling companies or general contractors with dedicated skips directly on site. The minimum required is approximately 500 m² of single, laminated or double-glazed glazing. They will be cleaned and checked by partner companies specializing in sorting before being remelted in production in order to guarantee high-quality glass with a reduced carbon footprint. A certificate certifying the recycling of glazing is issued to the customer.
AGC’s Recycle Glass service meets the European objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 (compared to 2019) and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In addition, this service helps to preserve natural resources taken to produce glass: sand, rock, water, etc. and finally to comply with REP (Extended Producer Responsibility) regulations by developing a recovery service for glazing manufactured by the AGC Group.
Finally, it should be noted that glass material is infinitely recyclable without loss of its initial properties but must comply with rigorous standards when it enters the circular economy process. Indeed, the optical and luminous characteristics of new glazing could be greatly disrupted by the color of the cullet used.
