Synonymous with reliability and authenticity, wood is often chosen in the constructions of our new millennium, in particular for the terraces that it dresses with its natural beauty. Attention: who says beauty, says care!
The time is no longer for neglect and the trend is for maintenance to revive, protection to make it last! We don't change, we take care, we improve, we perpetuate!
Sustainability is not so simple: you have to learn the right reflexes because wood lives and requires special attention.
The secret: before applying any finish whatsoever, it must be clean, then choose the appropriate finish.
Owatrol procedure and advice
Cleaning step: essential reminders
- We sober up a gray wood by the wear of time (UV, rain…).
- A wood soiled by an old oiled finish which has baked in the sun is de-oiled.
- Wood is stripped with an old very film-forming coating or an old paint.
Owatrol® cleaning tips:
- NET-TROL®, a real makeover, sobers up just gray woods in 15 minutes, followed by rinsing.
- AQUANETT® de-oil wood fouled with old oils in 20 minutes, followed by rinsing and stabilization.
- DILUNET® removes up to 8 coats of paint! Followed by rinsing then stabilization.
Once the wood is ready, it must be protected:
Protection step - choose the finish: oil, stain or saturator
- The oil brings a beautiful appearance but will often blacken in wood under the effect of UV rays and risk clogging it. Maintenance is then more complicated.
- The stain provides a film-forming finish which may flake over time, it will be necessary to strip for maintenance.
- The saturator feeds the wood in depth by impregnation, without leaving a film on the outside. Maintenance is simple.
Owatrol® advice: the case of exotic woods
Exotic woods, or hardwoods in general, convey the idea that they will last forever as they are hard and therefore resistant ... But like all other species, without protection they will gray, tarnish, stain, warp and sometimes even crack.
With their very fine or closed pores, these dense woods do not allow products to penetrate. You therefore need a product with excellent penetration qualities to counter this density. Only saturators permeate and penetrate deeply.
Zoom: AQUANETT® + NET TROL® + d.1 "marine quality": how to renovate a teak terrace
This terrace, which used to be stained, gray and aged under the effect of UV rays, was first deoiled with AQUANETT® then stabilized and thinned with NET-TROL®. Then to nourish its dense wood, D.1 was recommended.
D.1 instructions for use: As its title suggests, the D.1 has marine qualities that make all the difference. It was designed for boat decks in extreme climates of Scandinavia to withstand all the violent attacks of these latitudes wind, sun, salt, rain, snow. Its outstanding resistance made it quite naturally reach the mainland and its exceptional impregnation qualities make it a saturator of choice.
Thanks to its technical formulation which gives it extreme fluidity, it enters the supports to protect them from the inside, by infiltrating everywhere. It brings in depth all the active ingredients that will nourish the fibers of the exotic wood from the inside. Based on vegetable oils, D.1 nourishes intensely in depth.
Inside and also outside: when entering the support, D.1 does not leave a film on the surface and becomes one with the wood by impregnating it: protection is total. It then protects it durably from abrasion and attack.
Simplified maintenance: thanks to the vaccine effect of the saturator which remains in the memory in the support, a maintenance pass is sufficient after cleaning the wood with NET-TROL®.
