Intended for all those involved in the building industry, the BLK3D from Leica Geosystems generates precise and real-time measurements from simple photographs. A practical way to speed up daily tasks, such as obtaining measurements to produce a quote, or checking the progress and compliance of work on a structure.

We speak in this case of photogrammetry to designate this technology which makes it possible to quickly measure the dimensions in three dimensions on a digital image. The method uses algorithms that detect the contrasts in an image and then determine the intersections to measure the distances between each point.

If the technology is not new, it is actually the BLK3D format and its ease of use that suggests a real revolution in uses. With a weight of 480 grams and a thickness of 27 millimeters, the 3D imager from Leica Geosystems has dimensions similar to those of a smartphone. And the resemblance does not stop there since the BLK3D also embeds an Android operating system, Bluetooth, Wifi and GPS. Better productivity, on site or in the office

Thanks to the combination of its stereo calibrated camera and its high performance data processing algorithms, each photo captured by the BLK3D is a complete documentation of 3D measurements. You just have to click on the touchscreen to point out the ends of the sections so that you can easily measure the distances and areas of the elements you have photographed.

It takes less than 5 minutes to take pictures of facades and obtain all the distances, even in inaccessible areas (balconies, windows, etc.). With a range of up to 20 meters and guaranteed accuracy of +/- 3 mm, the BLK3D eliminates the need for tedious installation of a ladder or a nacelle to carry out your measurements. A single person can now take care of all the statements!

The productivity gain does not stop there. The data collected (images, measurements or plans) can also be combined and processed by computer. They can be exported quickly in all common formats (PDF, jpeg, etc.) as well as in DXF or DWG 2D or 3D to be used directly on your CAD software. And since each photo contains all the data, there is no need to go back to the site in case of modification on the project. Welcome to the world of Digitization!
