Which materials to favor?
The material of the gate will directly influence its propensity to withstand shocks, weather and weather in general.
Wooden gate
Wood is a warm and very aesthetic natural material, which, depending on the species and the varnish chosen, can offer a design and modern style or more authentic and rustic. If its impact resistance is quite good, its weak point lies in the maintenance it requires (at least once a year).
It is important to opt for the FSC or PEFC labels which guarantee that the wood used for the design of the portal comes from sustainably managed forests.
Steel and wrought iron gate
Aesthetic and highly customizable, the steel or wrought iron gates are timeless. They offer excellent impact resistance and require only a light maintenance every 3 or 4 years. Beware, however, of steel which could rust by the sea if it is not sufficiently protected.
Aluminum gate
Light and yet very robust against shocks, the aluminum gate is not afraid of corrosion and requires no particular maintenance. It therefore represents a lasting and trustworthy solution. On the aesthetic side, this material allows many possibilities for personalization.
PVC gate
The PVC gate is economical and does not require any maintenance, but it is not very resistant to shocks and its plastic appearance may not please everyone. However, some models of PVC gates are reinforced by metal reinforcements to offer better resistance.
Adapt the gate opening mode to the terrain configuration
There are 2 types of openings for outdoor gates: swing or sliding.
Beyond his own tastes, it is essential to take into account the terrain on which he will be placed to make his choice. Indeed, if the entrance is sloping, it may prove impossible to install hinged doors which would touch the ground when opening.
Also watch out for swing doors which would open outwards (public road): it is necessary to obtain the agreement of the municipality or the DDE (Departmental Direction of Equipment).
Shape and degree of concealment
The choice of the form of the gate and the type of concealment depends on both its aesthetic affinities and the degree of protection and privacy that one wishes to receive.
The outdoor gates are mainly available in 7 classic forms on the market, but the creativity of manufacturers and designers is limitless: all possibilities are possible for a harmonious integration of the portal into its environment (in compliance with town planning rules and current use of the neighborhood).
Concerning the occultation, we find 3 types of portals.
The openwork portal
It consists of a succession of vertical bars and slats and a vacuum. The openwork portal is intended for habitats that simply wish to mark a physical delimitation between the public road and their land, without wanting to hide their exteriors from the rest of the world.
The semi-openwork portal
The semi-openwork gate is distinguished by its full lower part. In addition to its aesthetic aspect, it can allow homes with pets to prevent them from going out on public roads by slipping between bars / slats.
The blackout or full gate
Ideal for those who wish to benefit from a great intimacy and to protect themselves from prying eyes, the blackout portal also serves as a windbreak: useful for highly exposed houses.
Many customization possibilities
The outdoor gate can be a personality with various equipment and processes for perfect integration into its environment and comfortable use on a daily basis.
From a functional point of view, the gate can be motorized in order to be able to control its opening / closing without having to leave your car (or your home when receiving guests).
On the aesthetic side, it is possible to play with the colors or to obtain patterns / inscriptions by perforating and cutting the sheet metal (always respecting the town planning rules and current usage of the district).
With gate?
The gate is a very useful solution for quickly entering / leaving the property, without having to open the gate entirely.
2 possibilities of integration of the gate exist:
- In addition to the portal (often attached). For aesthetic reasons, it is advisable to match it with the gate.
- Directly integrated into the portal, the gate is an integral part of the portal.
