GenePlanet chose the local architectural firm Kragelj for this mission of creating an environment that would meet all the diverse needs of its employees, operating in fields as diverse as medical, operations, IT and marketing.
Design approach
The design team needed to create a cohesive workplace that had open collaboration and circulation areas, several meeting rooms of varying sizes, areas for workstations, and a few private areas for conference calls. Kragelj's brilliant design work made it possible to achieve this goal. The new building features a spacious, double-height central atrium, surrounded by a series of closed and glazed functional areas that allow spaces to retain a sense of clarity and openness.
The Isotherm modular carpet from Milliken, from the arctic survey collection, has been selected to blend in perfectly with the fresh, calm and neutral aesthetic of this modern and sophisticated workplace. The Arctic Survey collection is inspired by the ever-changing landscape of the polar region and the natural beauty of its icebergs. Their changing surfaces are reflected by the ridges and textures of the Isotherm tiles, installed over the entire floor.
Two complementary grays, Antarctic and Snow Caves, lighter, were chosen for this project. The saturated colors of the mass-dyed nylon and the sculpted surface of the Isotherm carpet combine to create a rich, toned look that evokes the quality of this high-flying project. The stain resistance inherent in the mass-dyed yarn, along with the additional StainSmart® anti-fouling treatment will allow this light-colored flooring to maintain its crisp, clean appearance over time.
“The Arctic Survey Isotherm carpet offers luxurious mobility comfort within the space and helps reduce muscle fatigue in the legs of its occupants. "
Carpet tiles equipped with a foam backing
Providing a pleasant and inspiring workplace is essential to the culture of GenePlanet. It has also become one of the main requirements in the specifications. The high-end interior finishes and luxurious flooring in this new building were paramount in achieving this goal. With the Comfort Plus® support from Milliken, the Arctic Survey Isotherm carpet offers luxurious mobility comfort within the space and helps reduce muscle fatigue in the legs of its occupants.
The acoustic performance of the foam backrest is unmatched. With sound absorption of up to 36 dB, for an open-plan office space like that of Geneplanet, this helps create a quieter, quieter and more productive working environment.
In addition to the mass-dyed yarn and the stain-resistant treatment, the Comfort Plus® backing will also play an important role in maintaining the appearance of the carpet by absorbing the wear and tear from intensive use.
Biophilic design influences
The biophilic design was of great influence in the solution proposed by Kragelj. The interior is punctuated with lush green plants, while natural wood finishes are reflected in the staircases, informal seating and platforms. The icy tones and organic textures of the floor coverings harmonize easily with these other biophilic references.
For this modern company, durability was a key consideration in the choice of materials. The Milliken Arctic Survey carpet is made with 20% recycled yarns, and 90% recycled material in its backing. This sustainable flooring is GuT, CRI Green Label Plus and BRE certified, EPD verified for material transparency and recyclable through the Milliken carpet take-back program.
With its avant-garde, professional and inspiring approach, the architectural firm Kragelj has created a design project that perfectly reflects GenePlanet's DNA and its cultural values.
