Located on the jetty of the Vieux Bassin, this historic monument of the Norman port city, called “La Lieutenance”, housing the king's lieutenant at the time, has undergone significant damage over the centuries.
Problematic
The building has deteriorated sharply: the differential settlement of the foundations between the front facade, founded in the embankments of the high platform, and the rest of the building, established on the old surrounding walls, caused numerous cracks and a tilting of the front panel. This settlement could in particular have been caused by water infiltration that has ravaged the embankments of the high platform.
Solution
A first recommendation by micro piles was first proposed by the geotechnical engineering office and taken up by the project management team.
The additional studies, carried out by the Company as part of its market, showed the presence in depth of vestiges of old quays of the Middle Ages in masonry, generating additional constraints of execution for the micro piles, which were already great depth, (about 25 meters).
The Company therefore opted for the solution of expansive resin injections, the feasibility of which however required the creation of a sole in the underlayment of the treated walls.
Indeed, in addition to being perfectly suited for historic monuments, this solution had the advantage of being much more economical and less invasive for the structure, by means of the small footprint used.
Implementation
Used to working on old and fragile structures, URETEK® has perfectly mastered this specific site using the Deep Injections® process: first, URETEK® technicians drilled holes of a few millimeters to insert the tubes of steel to carry the resin in the ground. Once injected, this resin, immiscible in water and respectful of the environment, made it possible to consolidate the soil after a few seconds, and to stabilize "La Lieutenance".
The intervention, monitored under permanent laser control, required only four working days to treat the structure. URETEK® has now made it possible to secure a future for this medieval vestige of the town of Honfleur. ”
