Acqualagna, Italy. In the heart of the Riserva Naturale Statale Gola del Furlo, in Acqualagna, capital of white truffles, is a new ecolodge: La Forestale Furlo.
Built on the basis of a former forest ranger barracks, the ecolodge is designed as a model of ecological renovation. This exceptional place has five different rooms, with luxurious amenities: ultra-modern sleek design, high quality and durable materials, large areas, bay windows with splendid views, marble and even a private terrace, Eric Merlin, the founder of the place , also made lifestyle choices.
"Here, no television in the rooms, no air conditioning, it is Pierre Rabhi's book, La Sobriété Heureuse, which guided the project", He explains. “We come to enjoy this immersion in uncontaminated, wild nature, where biodiversity is exceptional. Above all, La Forestale is not a hotel: it is Don Merlino who welcomes people to his home, in a B&B concept based on a fundamental human and personal bond ”He says.
The promise of La Forestale is based on a design / gastronomy / ecology triptych. All around the ecolodge are accessible many activities related to nature and the nature reserve: trekking, mountain biking, canyoning, birdwatching ... The pure and fresh rivers of the neighboring mountains invite you to swim. Acqualagna is the capital of truffles: it is found all year round, just like mushrooms.
"The Furlo is a gastronomic village: it houses no less than 6 restaurants for 50 inhabitants, two of which specialize in truffles", adds Eric Merlin. Finally, the surroundings offer a vast culture, many historic centers, and all the charms of Italy. “We are less than half an hour from the Adriatic Sea and its charming seaside resorts”.
Eric Merlin chose Kebony wood to dress this heavenly place:
“I chose it for its incomparable qualities and without competition (to my knowledge) in terms of resistance, hardness and longevity; the whole confirmed by a guarantee, unique on the market, of 30 years, as well as the absence of maintenance. I have a lot of respect for “committed” companies like Kebony. We share the same values linked to CSR and sustainable development. ", He explains.
Developed in Norway, the revolutionary Kebony technology is an environmentally friendly process, which modifies softwoods from sustainable sources by heating the wood with furfuryl alcohol; an agricultural by-product. By polymerizing the cell wall of wood, softwoods continuously adopt the attributes of tropical hardwood, including high durability, hardness and dimensional stability. This process not only significantly improves the physical properties of wood, but also contributes to its unique appearance thanks to its silver gray patina that develops over time.
This silver patina has been the subject of 3D simulations, in order to visualize its evolution from brown to gray. This made it possible to guarantee aesthetic continuity, in particular with regard to the color of the aluminum of the windows. The wood, meanwhile, allows the ecolodge to blend in perfectly with the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
