4 steps to make your own gate from pallet wood, protect it and personalize it with the Owatrol range

Tools to build a gate

• 9 pallet boards
• 1 jigsaw
• 23 stainless steel screws
• 1 meter measurement
• 1 pencil
• 1 pot of OWATROL® BOISCOLOR Paint
• 1 rectangular or flat brush with long bristles
• 2 large stainless steel hinges
• 1 pot of RUSTOL-OWATROL® Colorless rust remover
• 1 aerosol RUSTOL-OWATROL ®: Colorless antirust

Step 1: build the gate

Cut 9 pallet boards to form the front of the gate.

Here, for a more aesthetic look, each plank has been cut into a point on one side and at different heights to form a V.

Position the boards flat with a constant gap between each board. Measure the width of the gate. Cut out two reinforcements of this size and screw them to the back 15 cm from the top and bottom of the gate with stainless steel screws.

Place a third plank long enough to run from the top brace to the bottom brace diagonally. Mark the locations of the reinforcements with a pencil and cut out along the lines. Attach it to the back of the gate.

Step 2: protect the wood of the gate

To protect it from the vagaries of the weather while providing a personal color stamp, paint the gate with BOIS COLOR paint from OWATROL® and the color (13 shades) of your choice.

BOIS COLOR is a decorative paint with a matte finish specially designed for exterior wood. It does not flake and cleans very easily with a damp cloth.

Very easy to apply, it dries quickly in 4 hours (24 hours for complete drying).

Step 3: install and protect the hinges against rust

Use two large stainless steel hinges to fix your gate.

Screw them into the back braces. To make the hinges more resistant to external attacks and prevent the appearance of rust, apply RUSTOL-OWATROL® COLORLESS RUST ANTI-RUST on the metal elements as an undercoat before painting them.

RUSTOL-OWATROL® COLORLESS ANTI-RUST is an anti-rust treatment that allows materials to be more resistant over time.

Step 4: Install and protect a brace hook

To enable you to keep the gate in the closed position, attach a brace hook. Remember to protect it by using the RUSTOL-OWATROL® aerosol: Colorless antirust.

This finish guarantees a quality result and preserves the materials from heat and humidity thanks to its protective film.
