To help construction workers on a construction site, in trades or during legal disputes, for example, to ensure the compliance of wood species with the information available to them, the FCBA Technological Institute has developed a dedicated application. : Xylorix Inspector.
The principle is simple: all you have to do is position a 24x magnifying macroscopic lens on your wood product and the application, installed on your smartphone, indicates whether the species you are looking for is the right one.
Selected as a 2021 novelty at the Artibat Construction and Public Works Fair, this application will very quickly become essential for controlling supplies, carrying out on-site expertise, etc.
Xylorix Inspector: an innovative application for all wood players
The FCBA Technological Institute, in partnership with the company specializing in artificial intelligence Agritix and with the support of CODIFAB, has developed Xylorix Inspector, an application, downloadable on your smartphone, intended to quickly and easily identify wood species.
Using artificial intelligence, this innovative wood species identification system is now unique in France and was also distinguished at the Artibat 2021 Construction and Public Works Fair among the new products of the year.
Xylorix Inspector will thus enable all those involved in the wood industry, but also more generally, all the professionals who have to work around the material (manufacturers, importers, architects, professionals in the regulation of the flow of wood goods, traders , experts, etc.) to control supplies, carry out live expertise in the field or simply ensure that the deliveries of panels/wood products are correct.
9 species of wood, the most commonly used in France in carpentry and for structural work, are now identifiable via the application: Bossé, Chêne, Sapelli, Sipo, Douglas, Spruce, Larch, Pine and Sapin. By 2025, 50 other wood species will be integrated into the application.
How does it works?
Xylorix Inspector is easy to use. After downloading the application available from all mobile platforms and obtaining the associated lens, all you have to do is:
- Make a cut using a razor blade on the wood sample;
- Place the 24X magnifying macro lens on the phone;
- Indicate the species of wood deemed to be that of the product concerned;
- Take a photo of the wood species at the place of the cut;
- In a few seconds, the application confirms or invalidates the information indicated.
