A bigger, more modern site
The treatment and distribution of drinking water is becoming increasingly important due to climate change. Our systems and pumps allow many people around the world to have access to drinking water.
The disruption to supply chains caused by the pandemic has shown the importance of producing more locally and reducing cross-continental flows of goods. At the height of the pandemic, we as a pump manufacturer were one of the few industrial and service companies able to maintain production.
This trend has led to the decision to continue the integration of the production of stainless steel parts with all its important stages: stamping, welding, etc. For this, on October 07, Georg Weber (member of the Executive Board & CTO), Dr. Mahmud Mustafa (SPV Group Operations), Olivier Minaud (President of Stemma and VP Operations), Philippe Marjollet (President Wilo France) and Simone Stopazzola (Plant Manager) inaugurated the new building of our subsidiary Stemma, a company that joined the Wilo Group in 2005.
Stemma is one of the production sites of the Wilo Group worldwide. Stemma, located in Cornedo Vicentino in northeastern Italy and employing 25 colleagues, produces stainless steel components for our Helix and Medana pumps. “The Veneto region is renowned for its high productivity and great knowledge and skill in stainless steel forming,” said Georg Weber. Dr Mahmud Mustafa adds: “Italy is quite unique in this sense, it has the know-how to draw and weld complex 3D geometries”.
The decision to move to a larger and more modern site contributes to the development of our strategy of securing supplies and helps us to better respond to the crises of recent years. Georg Weber underlined: “Our strategy is a response to the regionalization trends of many countries in the world at this stage. It's also a response to stress in global supply chains that obviously won't go away. Stemma is an important example of this insourcing strategy with significant investment and business growth.” The strategic approach also focuses on vertical integration, i.e. investing in technology that gives us a competitive advantage.
Furthermore, it is an excellent opportunity to improve production by following Wilo's corporate product strategy as part of the continuous development of the Cold Water business.
The new modern building is also in line with our group's sustainable development strategy - since it is covered with solar panels - and other initiatives are to come in this area.
Final touch of the inauguration: Management, employees, stakeholders, suppliers and partners gathered around a cocktail to discuss and strengthen ties with local partners.
