Wendel expands and modernizes its Samazan logistics platform

This extension is also accompanied by a modernization of the space to optimize processes and reduce the arduousness of work.

Process optimization

Beyond its extension offering 2.482 additional locations, the logistics platform, the nerve center of the distributor's activity, has been modernized.

Made up of 6 preparation lines and two storage levels to facilitate picking, the premises dedicated to e-commerce activity are now installed at the heart of the warehouse and benefit from additional storage space upstairs.

In order to maximize storage capacity and save time, Wendel has deployed a dynamic warehousing system thanks to its new ERP which indicates to warehouse workers the best location according to the dimensions and weight of the pallet when it is received.

Order pickers will soon be equipped with touchscreen tablets to simplify management and achieve “zero paper”.

With 6 loading docks to supply the 10 Wendel agencies, they benefit from a dynamic organization to optimize daily deliveries.

To always better serve its customers, the logistics platform offers a space reserved for professionals coming to collect their orders placed online.

An extension for ergonomics, safety and reducing hardship

For Valérie Zago, Director of the Wendel logistics platform: « Even though we had already implemented several actions to limit the arduousness of the work of employees, in particular with exoskeletons, the tile lifting clamp and training in gestures and postures, the new layout of this space has been designed to improve ergonomics and their safety. »

In the e-commerce area, computer screens are now at eye level even when standing. The preparation area has been enlarged to make journeys smoother and a conveyor belt limits the carrying of packages. To improve team safety and comply with current standards, the aisles have been redesigned and existing racks reinforced. All retractable trolleys will soon be equipped with lasers.

Finally, as part of the Wendel group's CSR approach, 30% of the roof is covered with solar panels providing part of the energy consumed by the logistics platform in green energy.

With the extension and new layout of its logistics platform, Wendel intends to respond quickly to the current and future needs of its customers while taking care of its employees.
