Veolia and the students of the School of Engineers of the City of Paris rethink the city after the Covid-19

From May 17 to 20, on the occasion of Innovation-Entrepreneurship Week, the engineering students of the EIVP benefited from the support of entrepreneurs, architects-urban planners, innovation and urban engineering professionals from Veolia and the City of Paris in carrying out their entrepreneurial project aimed at rethinking the city after the pandemic as part of an ecological transformation process.

The week ended with an award ceremony for student projects that could see the light of day and redesign the city after the Covid-19:

1st prize, WELL C 'HOME : An onboarding game project facilitating the integration of new and new employees impacted by teleworking.
2nd prize, MASK HAS BIN : experimental project, on the forecourt of La Défense, of an intelligent collection of masks in a container integrating a disinfection process with a view to recycling. Raising public awareness of the environmental issues linked to disposable masks in a place with up to 5000 visits per hour: going beyond simple collection to encourage recovery. The bin would contain a mask disinfection system and, via an application, would encourage the deposit of masks via a system of points allocated to each user.

and two favorites:

PROX'EAT : collaborative application allowing you to order a "homemade" meal from your neighbor or sell your meals to your neighbors
NEIGH BEEZ ' : geolocated application intended to facilitate the rapprochement between neighbors through the exchange of services

The challenges of COVID 19 have made essential the emergence of a more resilient and ecological city, less exposed to health risks. For a week, the second year students of the EIVP drew on the experience of professionals in ecological transformation and their knowledge to implement the Design Sprint: a methodology that aims to respond to an engineering problem. from a prototype tested with users.

At the end of the week, 16 teams of students presented their projects to a jury of experts, during a closing ceremony which rewarded the two best projects and awarded two favorite prizes from the jury.

For Franck Jung, Director of the EIVP, it is "essential, in an urban world in profound redefinition following the current health crisis, to integrate into the engineering course, which is more in urban engineering, the right tools to bring out solutions through start-up projects. -ups, associations or social and solidarity businesses by initiating them, for example, in Design Thinking: starting from the uses and needs of users before considering the design. This innovation week thus fits perfectly into our recent reform of the engineering cycle which aims to develop this type of approach ”.

The EIVP: The School of Engineers of the City of Paris (EIVP), located in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, is the Grande Ecole d'Ingénieurs du Génie Urbain. It is the benchmark in terms of teaching and research on the themes of urban planning and sustainable management. In 2020, she co-founded, with the EAVT, the ENSG, the ESIEE, the IFSTTAR and the UPEM, the Gustave Eiffel University. Each year, the EIVP graduates more than 150 professionals including 110 engineers who will build the cities of tomorrow with a transversal approach to urban projects.
