TotalEnergies will supply solar electricity to Google in Texas

The energy will come from two solar parks, currently under development in the state, with construction expected to begin in the second half of the year. Their total capacity is 1 gigawatt.

TotalEnergies has already signed several contracts with Google for the sale of renewable electricity, notably in Ohio and Malaysia by the end of 2025.

These are "power purchase agreements" (PPAs), multi-year contracts under which customers buy their electricity - usually renewable - at a predetermined and stable price, thus uncorrelated with market movements.

According to its accounts for the third quarter of 2025, TotalEnergies then owned a solar park with a gross capacity of 21,5 gigawatts worldwide, including 6,9 in North America.

Texas has a relatively polluting electricity system, weighed down by a still significant reliance on gas and coal: each kWh generated an average of 263 grams of CO2 over the quarter, according to ElectricityMaps data, almost ten times more than in France.

But the state is increasing renewable energy installations: in the last three months, 13% of the electricity generated in Texas was from solar power, 41% from wind power.
