TotalEnergies and Colas renew their partnership to support the decarbonization of construction activities

A multi-energy partnership to reduce emissions

Within the framework of this partnership, TotalEnergies and Colas are continuing to develop decarbonization solutions around three major axes:

• The large-scale deployment of multi-energy solutions such as the supply of biofuels (HVO) and the powering of construction sites via batteries, as a replacement for traditional generator sets;
• The installation of electric charging infrastructure, powered by electricity guaranteed to be of renewable origin, for Colas' fleet of electric trucks, machinery and construction equipment;
• The development of Colas' existing land with the installation of solar power plants internationally, contributing to the production of renewable electricity and the energy self-sufficiency of the sites.

These initiatives align with the ambitious goals of the Colas Group's low-carbon and biodiversity roadmap, which aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions (scopes 1 and 2) by 46,5% by 2030. TotalEnergies leverages its expertise to achieve this ambition through its multi-energy strategy, offering a wide range of low-carbon solutions. Beyond reducing its own emissions, TotalEnergies' objective is to decrease the carbon intensity of the energy products sold to its customers by 25% compared to 2015 by 2030.

A major project in France for the implementation of solutions with a reduced carbon footprint

The first phase of the collaboration allowed for the testing of carbon footprint reduction solutions on the construction sites of the Colas group, including a large-scale rehabilitation project in France, currently in its final phase.

As part of this project, TotalEnergies supplied HVO100 (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a 100% renewable biofuel, to power more than 220 machines and heavy goods vehicles used on the construction site. This alternative fuel allows for an immediate reduction in CO₂ emissions of between 60% and 90% compared to fossil fuels.

Electric batteries with a capacity of 2,4MWh, replacing generators, have also been installed, notably to power the living quarters.

This experiment, conducted under exceptional conditions, made it possible to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 4.000 tonnes, and to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of innovative multi-energy solutions on an isolated construction site.
